Accessing the CERTAIN Network: Public Data Use Policies

Requests for CERTAIN Data

The secondary use of CERTAIN data or product may be requested by Potential Users  (investigators, hospitals/clinics, Payers, industry, policymakers) of the CERTAIN Network  for relevant research or quality improvement projects or analyses outsides of current CERTAIN primary project activities.

Examples of potential data use includes, but is not limited to:

  • Requests for research data or aggregate data reports from healthcare stakeholders (e.g., individual hospitals, other researchers, corporate partners, healthcare payers, state governing bodies, etc.).
  • Use of existing CERTAIN data
  • New research studies
  • Patient Voices Project, Patient Reported Outcomes data
  • PROs in Practice

Other Notes:

Different levels of Protected Health Information may be required for different projects (e.g. identifiable datasets, coded datasets, anonymous datasets, and aggregate datasets) and a data use committee with oversight by the CERTAIN Administrative Core manages these requests. No identifiers are included in publicly disseminated research reports, presentation materials, publications, manuscripts, or other released materials and identifiable datasets are only released with direct permission from clinical practice partner sites.

The CERTAIN Administrative Core reviews incoming requests to assess whether proposals are methodologically and financially sound, that CERTAIN has the data available for secondary use and that regulatory issues are adequately addressed. If you would like to make a request, please contact us
